Local police continue to investigate the deadly shooting of a man outside of Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.
The shooting took place near the gaming property at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
It appears a passenger in a vehicle shot the pedestrian in the chest. He was wounded by a single bullet. The victim was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, but he was declared dead at the medical facility.
The shooter and others had driven to the casino, according to Florida TV station WPLG. They soon got into a dispute with the pedestrian. The suspects fled in a vehicle after the shooting.
Police have not yet located the car.
“It seems to be happening more and more, all the time,” a patron told WPLG after the shooting. “You get a big crowd like this together nightly, and something is bound to happen.
Seminole Tribal Continue Investigation
Seminole tribal police were reviewing surveillance video and seeking out witnesses this weekend to identify the suspects. No arrests were made as of Sunday, and the motive and reason for the argument remains unclear.?
Further details on the shooting were not released. An autopsy will likely be performed on the victim to determine the cause and manner of death.
Hollywood is some eight miles southeast of Fort Lauderdale. Saturday’s shooting is not the first death this year at the casino.
Prior Shooting
According to a January news report, a man who fired a gun at a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper was later found at Hollywood’s Seminole Hard Rock Casino. He was identified as Christopher Storliel, age 47.
The cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities revealed. Tribal police officers discovered the body on the property belonging to the casino.
Storlie reportedly shot at a trooper in Missouri’s Carter County on December 18, 2022. The trooper wasn’t wounded, but the shots repeatedly struck a police vehicle.
The incident began when the trooper attempted to stop a Cadillac Escalade after the driver failed to signal. Rather than pull over, the suspect drove away. Storlie soon stopped the SUV, exited the vehicle, and fired shots toward the trooper, the highway patrol said.
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood is a resort/casino. It is operated by Hard Rock International, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
