An alleged sex worker and two armed robbers were part of a nefarious scheme to apprehend and rob four Las Vegas tourists, according to a recent news report.
The accused prostitute, Janel Jeffers, 23, met the tourists at a nightclub and then went to their local rental unit, where the holdup took place.
She was arrested on February 19 for robbery, conspiracy, and kidnapping, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
Jeffers initially met the group of tourists at an unnamed Las Vegas Strip night spot on November 25. She exchanged numbers with one of the men. She then went to the rental property where they were staying.
Less than a half hour later, two men entered the rental unit. They pulled out firearms and ordered Jeffers and the four tourists into another room.
Thousands of Dollars Stolen
The bandits stole thousands of dollars in cash from the four tourists. The duo also robbed personal items from the men. Jeffers and the two bandits then fled together, police said.
Once free from captivity, the tourists notified local police. The men, who largely spoke Spanish, didn’t appear to be injured. It’s unclear where they permanently reside.
It also was unclear if the four tourists had paid Jeffers for sex or why she was invited to the rental unit.
It appeared Jeffers knew the two suspects based on what the tourists saw, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). Before the two robbery suspects arrived, “Jeffers was acting strange and began to exit and enter the home’s bathroom multiple times,” according to an arrest report from the LVMPD, which quoted the tourists.
Jeffers had been “actively working” as a sex worker, and police were aware of her activity, KLAS reported. An undercover officer previously had arranged to meet Jeffers in a sting operation after seeing an online post she had placed.
Jeffers admitted to officers that “she was working” as a sex worker, but claimed she only left the property at the same time as the robbers because “she was scared,” according to LVMPD arrest reports.
Jeffers was booked at the Clark County Detention Center. She remained in custody as of Wednesday morning. Her bail was set at $100K and she’s scheduled to appear at a court hearing on March 6.
Robbers on the Lam
As of Tuesday, LVMPD officers were still seeking the two robbers.
Police didn’t reveal a description of either of the men.
It isn’t known if police are aware of their identities or whereabouts.
